Having come across this 2004 V42 it looks like it fits our requirements of replacing our Windy 34 Khamsin with something equally as sporty but with more room down below.

What are people's thought on the V42 Open?

Looking at ads for other V42's for sale it looks like there was a more modern oak interior option circa 2007/8 which would be ideal if I could fine one, as the gloss cherry interior is now a bit dated.

Other than the Gloss Cherry this one looks pretty ideal - D6 310hp engines with only 250 hours and re-upholstered saloon both big plus points.

Its just a shame its not an economical proposition to get the woodwork re-veneered in a more modern oak finish - oh well we can't have it all..... unless anyone knows of a V42 open with the later interior and low hours D6's that they wants to sell? (Only interested in the standard cockpit layout, not the sunpad layout)

I've had a quick look and can't seem to find any performance or economy stats for the D6 vs. Kad300's or KAD44 versions......anyone know where I can find them?

I'd also be interested in knowing what the noise levels are on the move as I did come across a comment someone had made that they were quite noisy which did surprise me.

Thanks for any information/opinions/advice current or former owners are able to offer.

I looked at the V42 when I last changed boat, my main gripe was that the bimini frame is too low for me when standing at the helm (I'm 6'3). Apart from that, not much to dislike; cockpit is v big although the price of that is no fixed sunpad or garage. (In the end the headroom and the sunpad/garage were the reasons why I went for the Targa 40 instead).

Nice boat. FWIW, I think the gloss wood is ok. Gloss is coming back into fashion in boat interiors, at least on the darker woods and if I were ordering new today I'd specify high gloss dark wood. I think the cherry colour is ok. Just saying!

Wrapping is a great option. Im using quite a bit on my current project. It is amazing although everything I'm doing is flat. A proper company would do a great job and the best thing, if you or a new owner want a change......peel it off!

Hi
Not that I know a lot it's looks a very tidy boat. Re the cherry, we have it on ours, and it would our choice over the lighter woods personally,
We looked a the v42 aswell for our last boat, what put us off is the transom runs to the end of the bathing platform which makes getting on and off if your alongaside tricky ( need all the help I can get after a few)

Oooh, very nice.
I was looking at V42's as well as SC35's ... if you prefer the option of having the wind on where your hair used to be, and you don't mind the extra mooring charges and fiddling around with canvas, it will be more of a "performance" boat compared the very secure and stable but somewhat pedestrian driving experience of the SC35.

A very tidy looking boat indeed. I agree with others, in my view the high gloss cherry looks good. There was a Fendi decorated larger Princess on MBY some time ago and the high gloss dark wood looked fantastic.

Afaik, D6's have some issues which are widely documented on here so worth searching.

Another vote for the really nice curvy gloss cherry interior which by comparison makes the later light oak look like a poor mans flat pack choice.

250 hours is very low for a 12 year old boat. But lack of use doesn't necessarily result in lack of defects.

I owned a 2001 V42 for 5 years. Fantastic boat, I actually preferred it to the V45 I owned after it and thought the build quality better than the newer boat. It was good in the rough stuff (which will be important to you after owning a Windy). Mine was the only boat to have Mercruiser 300 deisels and was good for 33 knots so I would expect the D6s to be slightly faster and quieter.
Everyone raves about hard top boats, which I agree are a lot more practical but once that canvass is stowed they can't compare to fully open boating which is why I now have a Hunton RS 43 (have you not considered one? Even better sea keeping than the Windy, decent accommodation and 50 knots. Happy days!).
