I came across a 2015 Princess V39 listed for sale on YachtWorld, equipped with 2x250hp Yamaha outboards. Maybe I don’t get out much, but I’ve never seen this setup before. I was thinking about emailing the broker just to learn the story behind it as well as performance, but I don’t want to bother them since I'm really not in the market! Thought some of you on the forum might find it interesting.

Could be a way forward for prinny would love to here the full story. It’s maybe under powered.

Looks neat - no noisy smelly engine in the boat. Probably no vibration. Easy crane out for workshop service.

I was thinking the same - I believe the V39 is usually fitted with twin D6-330hp engines.

It looks to me like a lot of the headlining in the salon has been replaced, and I think I've noticed other signs of corrosion here and there. I wonder if the boat might have been in an accident and possibly even partially submerged at some point, which could have led to the engine replacement. Of course, this is purely speculation! The ad doesn’t mention anything of the sort - in fact, it claims the boat is in "beautiful condition".

D4 / D6 are actually quite quiet, no smoke, minimal vibration, no smells, unless you crack open a fuel line and sniff the diesel.
That boat looks like a bodge on a substantial scale.

Wow, not seen that before

Without meaning to go all 'USA' on it, I think 350s or possibly triple engines would be required.

Wonder if seakeeping has suffered much now it weighs a fair bit less / the weight is even further back?

But a tidy job made of the overall bodge! 😁

The installation appears to be quite neat but on a boat not designed for outboards and with what appears to be insufficient power it doesn’t appear to be a great concept.

Outboards tend to be noisier (due to being outside with you) and smellier (due to petrol exhaust fumes) than modern common rail diesels buried deep inside a soundproofed engineroom. :)

I know for a fact that Princess was planning an outboard V40 in around 2022/23, which so far has not materialized.
Definitely a proposal for the US market, who sub 50 feet want outboards, with these outselling sterndrives like 7/3.
Fair to say the change of typology for sportier CC and dual console boats does help outboards outsell the sterndrives.

The current management also wanted to stop the V40 production this year, but I believe dealers managed to convince it to let it into production, as they say it is the easier to sell boat, hence the V40 will live another year in 2025.

The engines seem to be mounted a lot further back than I would have expected.
In principle, that's not a bad thing, with outboards.
In fact, I even wonder why they made that Heath Robinson-esque platform modification.
IMHO, an extended bracket, possibly with a powerlift, leaving only the two side platforms - which in fact is all that can be used anyway, also in this solution - would have made been simpler and more efficient.

it looks like all interior wood furniture had been repainted. terrible.
based on my experience with the D6 330, those 2x250hp Yamaha are more than underpowered.
I do not understand what are those black boxes in place of the volvo engines.
only one tank used for both engines, they are not going much far away
it is usual to see long taxi boats with 2-3 outdrives in those areas, so I understand where the idea might comes from
but my eyes are bleeding looking at that V39
