Hi everyone

I have a question for the experts

I often go and stay over night in the near islands. And i use the boat windlass anchor for bow and another 8 kg anchor for the stern.

The problem that am facing is that the stern anchor cannot get enough grip in the bottom of the shallow water near beach (sand bottom) especially in slight wind situation.

So my question is. Is there a better stern anchoring option than what am currently using?

Thanks alot

The weight of the anchor is 8kg.

The boat weigh is 13000 kilos

As a relative ignoramus I would have thought that in this application your stern anchor is your de facto main anchor and should be sized/chained/scoped as such? Perhaps more than usual scope to reduce side loading the anchor?
Bit of a pain to retrieve without a stern roller, but you could bring a bridle round to the bow roller to do that - it would neatly bring the bow round for departure too.
I've probably got that all wrong - I'm sure the real experts will be along in a minute.

Nothing wrong with the type of anchor, just that it is far too small for the weight of the boat. Suggest you look at a Fortress anchor which is probably the most commonly used anchor for what you want.

95% I use a tree or a rock.
In the v.few occasions I cannot, I use a FX11 (or is it 13?) fortress with it's 5-6m of 6mm chain and some rope. It's a bastrd to remove next morning!
