Hi everyone

I would like to customize Cockpit Enclosures for princess P45.

An easy access to the front of the boat would be nice with out the need to remove the full canopy.

Any clever ideas that at we can use?

Can i keep the canopy on when the boat is moving?

I have searched online for similar set up (attached below ?)

Thank you
Best Regards

Tecsew whose brochure you link to are probably the best in the business and if you are S coast based well worthg talking to. However there are many canopy makers who can custom make what you want if it si feasible. Best to get them come to your boat and discuss what you would like.

Do they have a website?

We used Tecsew for the cockpit canopy on our Princess P50 and we have been very happy with the results.

They ended up doing a design that has a skirt that slides into the rail at the top, individual panels then zip into it allowing them to be removed individually.

the skirt also features a pocket which allows you to roll up individual panels then zip the pocket closed so they store neatly.

They have a lovely manufacturing facility in Fareham but came to the boat in Gosport to template and fit. Timescale was adhered to Which is often not the case with canopy manufacturers..

We are also a satisfied Tecsew customer - had a cockpit tent with removable side panels zip panel since 2015 can move individually in and out . If you like you can also have mesh panels to replace one or more plastic window panels . I would also be asking your brand dealer who they use as an alternative pricecomparator.

I make my cockpit covers myself.
That way I can make my own alterations/enhancements.
I use the exactly the same white PVC that Princess use - I get it really cheaply.
I really like using the material - dead easy to sew.

Fundamentally, I bought a Sailrite sewing machine to do the work.
I started by using some cheap non-UV resistant materials - learning the lessons the hard way!!
Here is a link to a long thread where we discussed the process.

Sailrite

It took a long time to get it right but that thread details how I got there.
Well worth it and cost effective too - a complete set of cockpit covers now cost me about £100 to make.
Really rewarding to make as well.

And if you make them yourself, you can change things.
As an example, I adapted the door zip design.
Princess use a Velcro flap that always sticks when you don't want it to.
This design is easier to make and doesn't use Velcro.
But I DO use Velcro in other places.

How do u go to the front of the boat.?

Sound nice

Do u have pictures?

I would like to use askirt that slides into the rail at the top but my boat has the rail but we are struggling in finding a skirt the will find the size or the rail.

Yep - you can leave the covers on whilst under way but we are in the Med so we tend to take them off.

The space on a P46 is obviously less but our covers include zips that allow us to get to the front of the boat when the covers are fitted.
I think that concept is much the same for most boats so it should be possible on a P45 as well.

Here is a photo that should help my explanation

The zips are around the blue lines in the above photo.
You can the squeeze through in the direction of the red arrow.

I hope that helps

Hi,

My previous boat was a P45 and we had a full set of cockpit covers for our somewhat changeable boating weather (New Zealand). You could certainly have them down when underway however, ours did not have a zip that allowed access the the side decks so we tended to roll them up prior to departing.

Fast forward to the newish (to me) P50 mark 3 and I insisted on having covers made that allow side deck access. Essentially, the side window zips open and folds back toward the aft to allow side deck access for maneuvering etc. When underway we zip them closed and retain the fully enclosed cockpit.
