Does anyone know how Princess use their HIN numbers?

I recognise the build month and year and the model year. The central part, between the builder initials and the build date, is: 48075

It would make sense for the 48 to refer to the model of boat. It is a model that started life in 2004, and as this boat has a build date also of 2004, I was expecting a low hull number. It doesn't make sense for it to be hull #75, though I think they are free to start the numbering however they like?

Hmm, I would have said they do exactly as you say - 48075 means hull 75 of the Prin 48. Maybe they dont start from zero if they have previously built another boat (earlier model) also called a "48". I dont think they start at a number bigger than 001 just for the hell of it

Remember that the V48 was preceded by the V46, so at a guess, the V48 hull numbers probably roll on from the V46. I'll make a quick phone call and see if I can get a definitive answer for you, stand by...

Dont be fooled by the HIN number.
It isn't the n'th number of that particular model that they build.

The following is what I was led to believe when we visited the factory whilst our P67 was being built.

Jobs go through the factory as "slot" numbers.
I believe that the slot number is the actual number of that particular model that they have built. However, I seem to remember hearing somewhere that a slot actually refers to an order number so a single slot could have multiple boats (I think).

Boats are ordered many months in advance and need a reference number so that engines / options etc can be ordered for the particular boat. I believe that this is why Princess use a "slot" number. Princess' slot number is specific to a particular production line. The HIN number is the official number that gets applied to the boat during its manufacture and, of course relates to the final build date and defines the boat absolutely.

Anyway, the difference between the slot number and the HIN is significant.

For example, there is a difference of 26 between our HIN and the slot number that she was actually built under.

I remember when we visited the factory seeing the first of the V85s and the first of the 95s - their slots numbers were all in the number range 001 to 004 etc. This implies that the slot number is a more accurate way of determining the n'th boat.

So, in oeder to know what number your boat is out of all the boats of that type built, you might be better finding the slot number that she was built under.

Yep thats my understanding too

So if say yr 67 is number 17 of the line the slot is/was 67017 etc

No - that wasnt what I was saying.

If my hull number was (for example) 083 then the slot number could have been 057.

Ok thats clear.

In all my correspondence my boat was always called by length then hull number of the series. So on stage payment receipts etc that is how the boat is refered to. Only saw the HIN which is completely different as mentioned above when I saw it mounded on the stern and of course in the paperwork on hand over.

Even the soft furnishings etc that were all wrapped up had this princess id number marked in felt tip.

I guess then there are three numbers, the number they put on the HIN (in your case 67083), the build slot number (057) and also somewhere else they'll know that 67083 was hull #5 of the new generation of P67's, but you can't get that from the HIN.

That would be my guess as well, it's basically the same boat.

Yup, in production since 2002, so a hull number of 75 by 2004 sounds about right. I tried a quick call to Princess service to confirm this, but no reply as yet (but I guess that's not unreasonable, given that I've got a Fairline now...!).

To the OP, there's a bit more info here if you're interested:

I work for Princess

Example as i cant be bothered to go into detail!!

Princess 50 Slot 25 does not mean "PYI50025"

Slot number means hull number!!

Those misterious numbers which appear after the title P50..... is the Yard number!! This is an internal system!!!

Did Princess get a job lot of exclamation marks with a use-by date that is rapidly approaching? :-)
