Princess - defective varnish

Hi,
I would be grateful to know if any Princess owners have any problem with cracking varnish on their cherry woodwork.I recently purchased a 2001 V42 ( very light use only 140 hours) - haven't even completed the first voyage yet! Just noticed that the joinery varnish has started to crack in 12 different doors/panels. Regretably at this moment in time Moodys/Princess are denying any responsability saying sorry but it's out of warranty and that varnish may crack if subjected to extremes of temperature. The term fit for purpose comes to mind! Since purchasing the boat she's been kept warm with 100watt tube heaters - so I am adamant that the faults are not of my creation. I believe that the flaws are a latent defect or a batch problem with the varnish.Iwould be therefore extremely grateful to hear from any other owners who have experienced a similar problem.
Many thanks
Steve

From what I've heard if you go direct to Princess their after sales service is second to none. Why not try to contact the head sales office in Northampton?

I have found both Princess Yachts (manufacturer) and Princess Motor Yacht Sales (distributor) to be exemplary in all my dealings.

I would be hugely surprised if they are 'not interested' in a 3 yr old Princess craft .

What is the history / where located since build etc. I have heard of problems on a Fairline (I think?) that was much older than your boat that suffered similar fate caused by lack of moisture due over zealous use of a powerful dehumidifier.....

Would be interested in your feed-back. Try talking to Chris Cleverly at PMYS Plymouth - he is head lad and approachable. Also what does your sales broker / surveyor have to say? I would add that like most things, you do have to take some care if you want finishes to keep 'as new' ie treat vanished wood with respect!

Good luck

Michael

I'd be interested to know how you get on. I looked at quite a few V40's and V42's before getting my '98 V40. All without exception had some sort of cracking in the veneer over the wood - mostly in the smaller hatches above the lounge seating area. So when I got mine, It did'nt seem out of the ordinary. I've not approached Princess over the problem.
