Had to do a charter on a P61 yesterday, I must say what a splendid hull.

Runs really flat planning with ease dont hardly feel her go over the hump. Also must be combination of the hull and large rudders I dont know, but she turns like a bloomin sports cruiser almost. Coming back from Ceuta we kept having to slow down and turn toward the dolphins and the response was amazing.

When compared with our Sealine 450 statesman which seems to take an eternity to turn.

Re: Princess: old git\'s boat

hm. Is the hull pointy at one end? Wow.

I'm afraid Princess boats strike me as their name - a bit austin maxi-ish. Cheap tho, for the size. The 42 is nice but they've lost it on larger models. Olde exterior, bit economical on the standard kit, same fit and finish on a 60-70footer as on their smallest boat. I'm surprised they don't have a model called "Conqueror" or "Ambassador".

Absolutely! One of their main strengths in my opinion. You don't end up spending 1/2 million quid on a boat from the "budget" range.

Bit like buying an Aston Martin, you expect the less expensive model to be every bit as good as the most expensive, just smaller and maybe not as quick.

If Aston did a "Spirit" range say, of lower spec models that were still flippin expensive would you still buy one?

Re: Princess: old git\'s boat

well as it happens I did once own an aston and just as the rest of the model range, it was quite rubbish altho it did crack 30knots. You know you've got a crummy car when the dealer keep saying it's handbuilt, sir.

Re: Princess: old git\'s boat

Thats what is fantastic though, it wont date in 5 minutes and they are really well built, great sea boat as well. Did it have the MTU's in clive?

Re: Princess: old git\'s boat

Er no, cant agree with that. If I've just spent a million squids on a boat I really want to be reassured that the finish is better than on the £200k model and whats more I want everyone to know it. I mean whats the point of spending all that extra money if they're gonna fit the same crappy door handles and cheapo HFL gen set as the budget model
As it happens, having seen the inside of a P67 and a P42, I think Princess do just about enough to differentiate the finish on the bigger boat and to be fair their prices are pretty competitive as well

Yup, take a look at the new P54 for a midships master cabin. No need to buy a P61

Err, because it's bigger...? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

could'nt agree more it should have had the mid ship full beam cabin. The gally down is a bit of a pain too.

Might be delivering a new Squaddie 66 soon, will let you know what thats like.

If it had a sexy full beam owners suite it would be nigh on the perfect boat

Re: Princess: old git\'s boat

Sorry but no. To use a car analogy if I'm going to spend £70k on a Merc S Class, I'm going to be well pissed if its built and finished like a £15k A Class and it should be the same with boats

Re: Princess: old git\'s boat

Merc are well below par these days, but in theory an A Class should be as good a quality as an S Class. Less toys, less power and smaller, but as good.

It works for BMW and Audi, a 3 is similar quality to a 7, and an A3 to an A8. Not as glitzy or well equipped, but the quality is there.

And anyway, a Princess 42 is three hundred and fifty thousand pounds FFS! If I were buying one I'd expect it to be good, not built down to a price.

I thought the whole reason Princess were no longer building 35's etc is because they couldn't be competatively priced at that size and maintain the quality.

Damn right a 42 should be as good as a 67, and damn right an A Class should be as good as an S (although you're quite right, it isn't. And an S isn't as good as it should be in any case).
