Hi! Given that I haven`t climbed into my lazarette as yet to attempt to bleed my hydraulic steering (or to pump it up) is there anywhere that I can obtain the written method for carrying this out, ie how many turns each way of the wheel etc, and which nipple (I guess the top one first) I release first to allow any air out? Thanks in anticipation for any replies.

Unless you have reason to think there's air in the system, then you probably just need to pressurise it. You need a bike pump (there's usually one stored next to the steering pump reservoir), and you just pump it up like a bike tyre until you reach the right pressure on the gauge. I find mine needs doing fairly regularly, don't know if that means I have a slight leak.

Not sure what steering system you have, but if it is a conventional gravity header at the upper helm. If the air is between the valve block and pump stations, then with the autohelm on press auto then -10 twice, at the same time spin the wheel to stbd for a couple of minutes.

Then press standby back to auto +10 twice, spin the wheel to port.

Keep a close eye on the header tank level, and be aware when the air arrives at the header it can come out with a pop.

Air at the ram itself may need some bleeding.
