Princess 40m in Jersey

Sat in St Helier marina I noticed a set of comms domes in battleship grey looming above the harbour wall.

Wandering around to the waiting pontoons I was surprised to discover it was a Princess 40m looking like it was on a shake down cruise.

I'm biased I know, but it did look classy & solid. The hardware looked heavy weight especially the lovely stainless windlasses.

I didn't like the colour though, a dull grey which may be fashionable but it looked out of place.


For those who know Jersey she was just tied up to the visitors pontoon as though waiting to get over the cill, some chance, she was wider than the gate.

It doesn't just look out of place, it definitely is - imho, of course.
I agree that the ground tackle looks the biz, though.

I quite like the colour. It seems that Princess have gone for an aggressive military looking design and I think the battleship grey suits that style. However I guess the colour was specified by the owner so really Princess had no choice. Agree with Mapism though. That mast above the windscreen looks silly
 
Looking across the river at all the Princesses awaiting delivery, there are a lot of grey ones. I think it is the new colour for this year, and to be fair, it does look much better in the flesh.
Imperial Princess is a beautiful, and IMHO much nicer than Sunseeker's equivalent (looks wise).
 
I wasn't sure why all the small aerials & receivers were scattered around the masts, it looked like (ahem, mine) where bits and bobs of gear had been added over time.

What are those wheels and levers for arranged around the windlass? Looks professional but I've no idea what they do.

I suspect the the closest wheel to the bow is the chain descent brake while the rear for locking off the chain??
 
I was so busy trying to get in the right place for pictures I didn't notice the mast in front of the f/b. I'll see if I can tell what it was for on the original picture. Don't know whether it was a temporary structure, the boat didn't look 'in commission' - for example there was a big emergency locator beacon just strapped to a side rail.
 
Aren't boats over a certain size supposed to display two lights, one above the other visible from ahead and from the side?
I would guess the promo shots were taken before she was prepared for leaving port, but now she is out sailing the seas, has to have the mast?
Better than having an even taller one up at the bow?

Naming ceremony was yesterday with a bottle of Champagne smashed over the Starboard anchor. Assume it was the owner, however a few Princess staff were on hand to enjoy the moment.

I quite like the grey, the fly roof has a canvass cover so assume access for cleaning may be restricted.
