Hi All,

I think I solved an issue as to why my fresh water gauge permanently reads full.....the plastic stem has broken off the Wema sender and dropped into the tank. Possibly done when bringing her round from Plymouth a few weeks ago.

So this should be quite an easy fix? Maybe not. The tank is 600mm tall, the hole opening is approx 1 5/8" diameter (1 1/4" BSP I presume). I only have 200mm space between the top of the tank and the deck above.

The only way I can see of replacing this sender is to remove the tank, which will mean moving the generator, moving the batteries, disconnecting and moving the port Morse control unit.

Before I go down this path, can anyone recommend a different depth gauge setup that would suffice without being too much more expensive?

Sorry, I wasn't clear, it is the underside of the lazzarette roof. Unable to dismantle anything from above and can't see any access hatches.

Have you thought about fitting a pressure sensor instead ? You just connect it to the outlet at the bottom of your tank.

They are very accurate and I put on on my s58 as the water gauge was inaccurate and getting to the senders almost impossible.

You will end up with a new bar graph gauge but I mounted this was passengers can see it as opposed to the helm and it works well as everyone knows how much water we have. They are about £100. I will try and post a link later

That sounds like it could work nicely, thankyou.

Years ago there was a fault with one of the fuel tank senders on my P42; it transpired that Princess moulded in a soft patch above the sender so that the sender itself could be replaced without massive surgery. Could there be the same with your water tank sender?

I hadn't thought of that. It's currently well covered with sound insulation, but I'll take a closer look and have a prod around when I next go down.

Cant help with the lack of space but I've had two dealings with Wema.
The local guy is really helpful.

We had a Wema plastic water sender and had the same problem as you - reading full all the time.
The Wema guy said that they are now using stainless steel ones so that they don't break anymore.
For me, the replacement was dead easy - just lifted a hatch to expose the top of the sender.
I've had no problems with the stainless one since replacing the plastic one.

This is the contact information I have from about 3 or 4 years ago.

Maybe a phone call to him - he may have an alternative that will work with the gauge.
He is a technical guy - not the usual salesman.
I'm sure he will be very helpful anyway.
