Princess 385

Re: z drives v shafts

Matt - could be transatlantic translation issue, but Z-drives here are drives where the engine faces backwards and the xmission is fwd of it. What you refer to are outdrives over here. I appreciate the handling differences between these two at low speeds.

Re: old man\'s boat

Thanks Jon - you have your uses!!

Diesel on the water is about 30% cheaper than gas - present prrices for gas/petrol 2.54 - 3.00/gal, so I don't think I'll need to sell any fish.

Just been out for 20mi bike ride at ~18mph av and I beat 'em all in the final sprint at 28.4mph - confident and ageless - I like that. Good name for a "new" boat???

Post script

Our first offer was not accepted - surprise, surprise so spent the weekend on our boat anchored at the north end of Longboat and rafted up to two other boats. Between doses of alcohol, food, including salmon flown in from Alaska specially for us, and swimming, got to thinking about exterior layout of the 385 vs. the sportcruiser style. 385 has no transom door, so you have to crawl over the transom to get to the water, the ladder to the flybridge is not good for old people and all in all, the design is not for socialising. We do love the interior, but we wouldn't spend much time in there and there was a lot to do to bring it up to the way we wld like it and I don't think I can be bothered with that. Consequently, we have decided not to proceed any further. Thanks for yours and everyone else's advice.
