Hi all,
Not sure if this is against the rules or not ? ?
My father is soon to place his boat for sale, as titled with twin TAMD61a 306hp each. She is in superb condition, having a recent hood and upholstery. Pretty convinced she shall be the nicest on the market. He his hoping to down size to around 30ft, hopefully being more manageable for him and my mother in their senior years.
Any interest or opinions on value would be appreciated.
Thanks.

A quick look round any of the brokers sites will give you an idea of the prices being asked for this type of boat, for a really brutal reality check see what things are going for on Ebay.
Not good time to sell any older boat,no matter how well kept, the market is awash with older mid sized twin engined flybridge mobos, many of which are more modern than the 385.
Examples seem to range from £35K abroad to a very optimistic £60K over here.
Suspect its all down to price ?

One suggestion in light of the fact that your parents still want to have a boat is to speak to boats.co.uk as they do exchanges.

Hi both, thanks for the replies.
I suspect you are correct about the market value. Hopefully it's towards the upper figure !!
With regards to trading in, I suspect he worries that the trade in value will be at the bottom end.
Thanks again

There might be somebody out there privately with smaller more modern boat who perhaps would consider a P/X or swap with your 385.
Am personally looking to trade up at the moment and have had a couple of offers from folks with larger older boats to do some sort of P/X with my existing boat.
Doubt the market in this class of vessel is going to improve much over the long or short term either.
Regards trading in,experience suggests any brokers likely to deal with this, need a considerable cash input to make it worthwhile them getting involved.

TBH the trade in value is immaterial, it's the difference you have to pay to get what you want.

I did a trade in when I bought my current boat. The offer did make me wince a bit but the broker did his job in putting a deal together and got the vendor to drop his price to such an extent it was suddenly affordable.

Certainly worth exploring. Nothing ventured, nothing gained :)

I remember it well, was one of the simpler of deals as both sides were prepared to work with me.

Would be worth asking about p ex but usually only works if you are buying something of greater value, it's unlikely to work if you expect to walk away with another boat and some cash.

another angle to selling an older flybridge is that they are still popular (in good condition) on rivers like the trent in nottinghamshire or ouse in yorkshire. might be worth phoning some of the brokers in those parts. york marina, farndon marina, newark marina etc. If they are positive about it, it wouldn't cost much to move it within the UK.
