Princess 385 engine removal

Please help! My port engine (TAMD61A) has sprung a fairly significant oil leak and I'm not sure I can fix it without removing the engine. I remember an article some time ago in one of the boating mags detailing engine overhaul (including removal / installation) on I think a princess 33. Does anyone have a copy of that article, any info on who would be qualified to do the removal and if it is even possible on this boat without chopping a hole in my flybridge floor! Any help / advice very much appreciated. Thanks, Ross

You don't normally need to chop the flybridge floor to remove an engine. It is usually lifted clear of the saloon floor and taken out through the patio doors.

You could talk to Thames Ditton Marine, they have done quite a few "extractions" in their time.

You either need a bloody great forklift truck and long boom.

Or build a gantry out of maybe scafolding poles and an I beam

Better dont by some one with experience though.

They do it in our Marina all the time using a long pronged fork lift truck. May have to remove the patio doors first

Lifted an engine out of a Fairline Corniche today using the "big fork" method... Patio doors still in place /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif not a particularly difficult lift if you have a block and tackle on the tip of the fork...

Always wondered if Y Haven had a big fork truck somewhere to lift mine out, should I ever need it.

What do they use down the marina. Or do you just trundle round??

Hi Haydn, have used a long spreader bar with a counterbalance on one end before at the marina, but it was a little hairy! We could always crane you out up here then use the big fork - they're a bit wide for road use!

Did not think you could lift 8 tons and nearly 40ft up there.??
