Good evening I have recently purchased a princess 35 flybridge 1988 this is my first twin diesel on shafts I have years of experience with petrol engines with leg drives but this is new ball game for me so looking for some pointers from experienced guys who’s had same vessel or similar vessel and I have a issue with flybridge tachometer starboard side seem to not work but lower helm starboard tachometer works also thinking on getting synthetic 2G teak decking done on aft deck and flybridge deck but not sure if it’s a good choice as it’s a classic and could devalue the boat.

Re: Princess 35

Would be going up top and removing the inspection panel under the instrument panel, bit of squeeze tho.
The space under the panel is not very water tight and quite likely corrosion of earth on flybridge tacho might be your problem. Worth checking with multimeter that 12v is present before replacing anything.
Unless deck surface is very damaged, personally think that the synthetic Teak looks bit naff on a P35 , no doubt the money will be spent as something more urgent always surfaces after owning boat for while.
Have quite a bit of paperwork (owners manuals etc) if you need any info.
Wonder what engine option you have and hope that the boat has now something more than the single weedy cheapskate bilge pump that came as standard. !
Also have the MoBo magazine test report, the test boat had pair of 250 HP Ford Mermaids installed.
A later version fitted with Volvos was only around 1 knot slower.

Re: Princess 35

Thanks I shall try under the instrument panel when home and get back to you, I have all owner manuals for the boat it has the twin Volvo Penta tamd41a cruising about 18knots and tops out at 25knots but I’m usually 10 to 15 knots most times. As of bilge pumps it has a forward mid and aft all have auto system and tested.

Re: Princess 35

I saw a P35 for the first time today going past my mooring, and I have to say it's a very pretty little boat: perhaps the nicest proportioned Princess they have designed yet including the latest offerings.

The windows and flybridge all work together with the Hull shape to make a very pleasing shape.

Post on here when you get 25 knots as will definately be the fastest Princess 35 in the known universe ...*
Magazine test with a dribble of fuel,a small bottle of Evian(for freshwater)and none of your usual accumulated junk, let alone inflateable, achieved 24.5 knots(ish) with 2 x 250HP when new.

Difficult to believe but owners and brokers have been known in the dim and distant past to be a little
economical with the truth. :)

*there was a P35 refitted with pair of KAD 300 once for sale in Europe.

I can't imagine it would make a jot of difference to the value - might improve it slightly if it looks better as a result. No one cares about originality on mass market eighties GRP boats, they care about condition, attractiveness, service history, that kind of thing.

A Princess 35 that's been tastefully (but unoriginally) refurbished throughout would be worth more than a tired but original example for instance.

Its when the fake "Teak" gets tired and worn .. due to low value of boat, owners tend go for the budget end of the market, a couple of boats we looked at had the fake teak put on the fly and area around the lazerette, both looked tacky , on one the adhesive ? had started to lift and looked awful, only option would be to strip off and redo again.

I agree with you entirely, although I kind of label that under 'condition'. If you make the boat look in worse condition then yes, you'll devalue it for sure.

But addressing the OP's concern about the effect of loss of originality on value, I don't believe anyone's going to mark down the value of a mass market eighties GRP cruiser based on it being less original. They're nice boats for sure, but they're not E-Type Jags or 250GTOs where people get concerned about the right stickers under the bonnet or whatever.

Hi i just bought an 1989 Princess 35 is it possible for you to send me the owners manual as well
best regards
Thomas

Sorry.
Conviced had it on a memory stick but it has vanished.
If theres anything particular you need to know , couple of us with a P35 in my boat club.
Both have the 200HP 41B engines. chums boat is the last version with the transom door.

Anything that can wear out or possible for the skipper to break has happened on my boat. Fortunately most things can be fixed with a large hammer and tiny budget .:)
Have shelf full of broken bits to prove it as well.
