Princess 33

OK let's split hairs...times are tough, I don't have £100k plus and I want a reasonable sized boat for the sea and I don't want petrols or outboards.
OK, you dont have 200, you dont have 100 what have you got? Give me a reasonable number and a few hours and Ill see what there is out there. Lets not forget we are in deepest November about the best time to get a good deal on a boat.

I have a boat already. And it's over 40years old, a new one of similar size would be £400k.

Was recently moored up with little group of boats, the conversation turned to a boat which had been bought back from the dead after it had sunk, the owner was very proud of it.
To give those in the know an idea of age of this boat, it had pair of Perkins 4108 fitted . They were fettled and bought back to life even though they had been under water for some time. The interior will probably take longer.
Just for once my boat was the newest in group and somebody commented that it must be nice not to have any problems.
Ha, blimming, Ha,. After running through this years list of stuff ( still etched in the wallet) that needing sorting on my boat, explained patiently,
you still get grief it just costs more to fix. :(

I had an unfortunate experience when in 1979 I bought a brand new Princess 33. (But this is how you learn)

When I was thinking of buying a new boat the boatyard which sold Princess Boats had a new one for sale, it was in the water at another marina and I went to see it, I decided that I did not want one which had been used as a demonstrator plus it had a bathing platform which they wanted extra for, so I went back to the marina near where I lived and said I wanted the next new one which came out of the factory. and paid a deposit. This was in the November, they said it would be around the April the following year when it would arrive.
The boat arrived in the February.

When I took it on its first trip from the marina where I had bought it from to where I had my mooring which was about 100 miles. during the trip the gearbox oil seal on one of the engines had sprung a leak, the manufacturer then sent a couple of mechanics up with another gearbox and fitted it when in the water tied up by a jetty.

Because by then I was a bit p1thed off with the boatyard as previously I had Esso deliver two 45 gallon drums of Red Diesel and asked the marina to put the diesel in the boat, I should have checked that they had done it, the fuel gauge showed half full, but as I had bever received a manual with the boat I did not know how much it held, So I set off on its maiden trip and it ran out of fuel. The needle on the fuel gauge was stuck on half full. Fortunately I had 4 drums of diesel and knew how to bleed a diesel engine.
So I started checking the boat out, and came to the conclusion that this was the boat which I had seen in the water the previous year and refused to buy, there were bits of sand in the bilges, I found a build sheet which showed it had been made the previous year and there were marks on the inside of the transom which showed that they had removed the Bathing Platform which I had said I did not want.

I had to get a solicitor to get them to accept it back and get a refund. In hindsight I should have rung Marine Projects and asked what the wait time would be and perhaps gone down to the factory to have a look.
Great Boat Though. I think it cost £29,000.
