Can a bathing platform be fitted to a 1979 Princess 32 given that the stern drive juts out some way from the Transom? Ideally I'd like to create some better access for recovery of a man overboard.

I can't see why not.
My Shetland Black Prince is sterndrive and the bathing platform mounts above it.

Used to have a P32 with a bathing platform - stainless tube frame with teak slats. Worked well and offered some protection over the drives.

Cant see why not. I had a bathing platform in my 1979 princess 33.
One problem I had was that if the boarding ladder was not put back to its stowed position, (ie lifted out if the water fully) the props could hit it if the wheel was hard over to port or stbd. This was partly due to the drives being mounted close to the center, but a bad design too.
