Will be rubbing down my outdrive soon and using a primer for any metal patches that show.

However, I noticed the primer I was thinking of using has Zinc Phosphate in it , is that safe for an aluminium outdrive (DP-E)? just thinking anything with the word zinc makes me think twice. Checked with the paint manufacturer and they say it safe for Aluminium hulls.

Anyone know if it safe to use?

To my knowledge (not a pro), zinc chromate would be the strongest but also most difficult to put on (properly) hence should be done by someone with experience and right tools.

Zinc Phosphate is the second choice if you want to DIY.

A friend recently had his drive painted by a shop that paint offshore wind mills. A complex procedure with very specific requirements to humidity, temperature and time between layers. Exciting to see how that keeps..;)

I'd be very surprised if Chromate is available, and with the toxicity not really something for the amateur.

Thanks for your responses, unfortunately it doesn't answer my question, is Zinc Phosphate safe on outdrives. However, doing some google searching, I found that ZP is not a conductor, so should be okay to use.
