Primer for my prop

I believe primocon is favourite but I have a large can of Gael forces "metallic" primer here. The instructions say any substrate and give some tips for preparing GRP steel and aluminium , bronze not mentioned but I guess it should be OK ??? Anybody see why not? My original use was for priming following my epoxy job it worked well then, it was cheap and I recommend it!!
I will us a hard antifouling on top.

Vyv suggests Hammerite, maybe he will post. We have tried Velox' own primer, its peeled off after 14 months. I tried Interprotect some years ago, it peeled off after 400nm. I'm going to try Hammerite next, but don't know, need to find out, if there are different grades.

Velox worked OK, not fantastic. We had growth, after 12 months, but it was relatively easy to get off, except the primer came off as well. We have 2 props and the other prop had Prop Gold on it, like Prop Speed. It was not so good, similar amount of fouling but much of it was barnacles which were absent on the Velox. Our use of Trilux was not a success, Velox is better.

The key, nice pun, is to abrade the prop, or so they say. I've followed instructions meticulously but have difficulty getting anything to stick - so each year we grind down, again.

I think, above all, the main thing that this proves is that the locality (and I mean potentially down to grid sizes of 100-200 metres) is the single biggest factor. At West Mersea a mate used Velox two years ago and it was useless, Trilux is fine... Absolutely agree that abrasion is the key point. This year I'm trying Seajet Triple Pack (epoxy Primer, Emperor AF) to try and get the better adhesion. My immediate neighbour in the yard had this on with impressive results.

I have heard others say that the Velox primer did not stick very well. My solvent-based Hammerite special metals primer, no longer produced, is well adhered to both prop and P-bracket after 3 or 4 years. Have not tried the water-based version. I have also used an autoshop spray etch primer on my galvanised anchor, which seems to have adhered well.

To pcatterall, an etch primer seems to work best on brass/bronze, if the Gaelforce primer is an etch type I would use that before Primocon, which I do not find to be very good.

I used a bog standard aluminium etch primer from militaryvehiclepaint.co.uk which turned out to be pretty good stuff. Applied last October, hasn't fallen off yet. Time will tell, but expensive marine stuff isn't always better.
