The pride of Baltimore,a restored Baltimore Clipper has been dismasted off Santander while racing this week.

Apparently the crew recovered the wrecked spars back on board then motored to St Nazaire.

Must have been interesting handling the big bits of spar in a seaway.amazingly noone injured.

I went aboard her once unlike many of the tall ships she is reputed to be fast under sail.

A pic I took of her in better days at the Bristol Harbour Regatta a few years ago

I think your right ,vague recollection of the Pob 1 sinking with loss of life somewhere. In which case this one must be a replica not a restoration.

She certainly looked the part at Bristol anyway.

thanks for that Vic .good website.

I was interested to read that some of the shipwrights were brought up from Belize for the job.i spent 9 months there in 1981 and was fascinated by the local boats .Huge Bermudan sails ,fast ,very beamy, fishing and carrying stores to Islands a long way off shore.

Very friendly people most then in extreme poverty nothing like you would imagine a central American Country to be like.

A gang of us took a local motorboat out to the "blue hole" to snorkel in an underwater volcano of immense depth surrounded by shallow water. Our skipper George promised to look out for sharks but was snoozing when we climbed back aboard. When I asked him how he found the place (out of sight of land )without a Compass he replied"Ive been here before".
