We've had a salt & pepper set that had a top that you could twist to close and kept salt free flowing for most of the season, but it's finally gone the way of all plastic and the supplier (a pound shop) is no longer around.

Any suggestions for a replacement? I know I should probably bring it home every time I leave the boat, but I'm just not that organised , so something that will keep the damp out without breaking the (rather fragile) bank.

Never considered there was need for salt or pepper on a boat

You must be joking! 2 pot, or 1 pot cooking is an art that requires spices, condiments and herbs.
I emptied my sea salt (+ rice) into the domestic supply at the end of last season. Took a bit of persuasion to convince her indoors that there was not insect pupae in our salt.

Last year I bought a small Tupperware type box, just large enough for a salt and pepper set. Sealing that did pretty well in keeping it running. This year I bought a small packet of small desiccant pouches and will put one in the box which will hopefully improve things further.

My mate who does most of the cooking brings this poncy flake salt:

You grab handfuls (well, not full) of it rather than pouring, so if it does stick together (which it doesn't seem to on Ariam) then it doesn't really matter.

For cooking I just add sea water as necessary (potatoes, pasta, rice, etc).
For seasoning I use a cheap grinder, originally bought from Lidl and filled with some fancy salt or other and, since then, refilled countless times with sea salt; cheaper than buying a 'proper' mill. Similar one is filled with pepper.
They come with a well-fitting plastic cover, so no problem with damp.

Got a nice pepper grinder (Oxo good grips), which has no problems with clogging up. For salt I put it in a recycled herb jar with plastic flip-top from a supermarket of your choosing. Doesn't have a seals or anything, but the top fits snugly and the salt stays dry.
