Pretrol smell remote tank

I have a 50hp outboard and a remote 25L tank. If left for a day or two I get a petrol smell mostly in the tank locker

How can I prevent this?

Leave tank vent open or closed? Disconnect fuel pipe?

Obviously I should vent the locker but would rather prevent the smell in the first place. Tank is usually half full.

Are some tanks better than others?

So what's the trick?

Plastic tanks leach volatiles metal ones dont. However on balance I'd stick with plastic for durability, leave the breather open if not in transit and vent the locker.

Ta. Sounds pretty simple, ie wedge locker open when leaving the boat.

Bear in mind petrol Vapour is heavier than air.
