LOL, talk about being touchy...

You're the one who felt the need to give the OP "a sanity check" before giving "much credence to the forum clique" that posted before yourself.
And being among those who commented negatively about the build quality of the yard in general, I explained that I did so only in reply to something the OP said, which was NOT strictly related to Prestige brand.
Nothing else.

You can think differently of Beneteau Group based on their turnover, that's a legitimate opinion. And as I said, if you're happy with your boat, good for you.
But there's no need to be sarcastic if not many others share such view... :)

French boats seem fine to me. Had four so far.

Bit plasticky, but suits us. Fair value for money. Designs seemed to look forward rather than back. Probably not suited to any neo Luddite, or the buyer with an unlimited purchase or fixing budget.

And we sold them all easily without too much financial loss. So second users must think they are ok.

Did about 1000 to 1500 miles sailing per year, and probably about 75-100 days/year on board. Boats all seemed to cope with this.

Beneteau make most charter boats and they appear to be well tested and survive.

Maybe your average Beneteau product goes further, is used more often, misused more, is tested more thoroughly outside a marina environment than other brands. So, they occasionally find the limits of what they can do. Most boats are sound in the marinas.

I think French manufacturers are probably known more for 'getting the masses out onto the water' rather than 'build quality' (whatever that means) though.

Cheers

Garold.

Ps we ran aground in a 40 ton Malahide trawler yacht many years ago. Seaworthiness counted for very little as the shafts were bent and the seams opened up.

Pps. My mate who deals a bit in salvage boats, has had a few bigger boats with holes in from grounding. On the rocks, the Princess, Pearl, Riva, Bavaria, all seem to hole successfully.

Hi Papa G2

Welcome to the forum.

I am stateside and I have a 2008 Prestige 42 Fly...and I love it. All aspects.

When I bought it last winter, it only had 2 full seasons on it (it was bought new in March 11 as a leftover). and, unfortunately, the end of its second season came to an abrupt halt when the prior owner's son hit a rock causing extensive damage to the running gear and some fiberglass damage (as the port prop was driven up into the bottom of the boat). Given that the boat was on plane when this happened the damage could have been much worse than it was (and I probably wouldn't be the owner right now). The transom certainly did not rip off.

Anyway, if you have any specific question feel free to contact me.

Jeff
