Anyone know of a hardwood 'feed' that will take varnish afterwards? I scraped back the (I think) mahogany rails to bare wood some time ago but the friggin' weather hasn't let me varnish and I'm concerned that the continuous wet and dry cycles will open up the grain and start splitting.Any suggestions or should I not worry?

I have mahogany grabrails. I've tried varnish, Deks Olje, Varnol and Le Tonkinois.

I reckon Le Tonkinois has been the best, in the sense of best result for least effort.

Did mine over winter - stripped back, then loads of coats of 50:50 real turpentine with linseed old. When that dried, International Woodskin, which had no problem adhering and drying - and they look great.
