Follow on from my question about flowcoat not going off, after a week, a few patches still haven't gone off, so I've removed them with acetone (SWMBO's nail varnish remover, actually, as the "proper" stuff I ordered still hasn't arrived) I now have several patches a centimetre or so across and a couple of bigger ones to re-coat. The rest is resisting my efforts to remove it with acetone, so I assume it's OK.

I understand that a wax floats to the surface of the flowcoat during the curing process to exclude oxygen and allow it to cure. Am I right in thinking I'll have to remove every trace of this before I can re-coat? If so, what's the recommended way of doing it? Is it soluble in Acetone or anything else?

Thanks

A light wash with Acetone, then a light sanding with 250 grit or less, then another wipe down with Acetone and you are ready to rock.

By the way, if you pit some cling wrap over the repair it should go off regardless as this will exclude the air.

Good luck and fair winds. :)

You should be careful with nail varnish remover. Some have dissolved lanolin or other moisturising oils which leave a film which could cause inter-coat adhesion problems. Pure acetone is better.
