Premium smuggling service

So these Ukrainian cowards stay out of harm's way in a British jail while their country is at war.

Doesn't seem right.

Pity they can't be conscripted into the Ukrainian army and sent to serve on the front line without leave for the duration of the war and then, if they survive, complete their sentences.

These guys were greedy, but I'd be surprised if yachts are not being used very regularly for this purpose. One "live" trip per year from an otherwise active yacht pays the annual marina fees, maintenance etc. Be sure it's happening. Maybe one of the yachts in your marina is involved.

I might have a go myself but with a 26ft Contessa, I'd have to bring each person over in sections! Don't think it'd prove a success.

I doubt it. Even if it seemed like a good idea, you need to find “customers”, find ways to handle/process the money, and ensure that on arrival in the UK your customers don’t tell the authorities who brought them in.

The risk of getting caught red handed by the authorities is probably low, the risk of being found out later seems higher but the biggest risk is probably the organised crime gang you are stepping on the toes of taking offence.

So does it happen - almost certainly. Does it happen very regularly - probably not.

It happens a lot. The press focus on the small rubber boats but a huge number of actual “illegal” immigrants, being smuggled to work, as opposed to claiming asylum, come in on pleasure craft and things like fishing vessels. They are usually Eastern European or east Asian rather than Middle Eastern or African. Despite the Albanians claiming asylum, they won’t get and will be returned

Those “illegal” immigrants, being smuggled to work are very often victims of modern slavery, and far more to be pitied than despised. In many cases they believe the gang's promises of well-paid work and find themselves with passports confiscated and paid a pittance to do work that bears little or no resemblance to what was promised.

Hardly describe that boat as "premium" .... I suppose it's a step up from a rubber dinghy though.
Thats how border force distinguish legitimate crew from stowaways! They ask them if they boat they are on is an AWB or MAB and if they get umbridge and offence and a 20 minute lecture on keels, rudders etc they know they've found a sailor. If they get "who cares its better than that one" then they reject them!

Worth knocking up a phrase book. "Rocna" in different languages -

"khili khob" - Persian

"bacpehtarin" - Afghani

"i shkëlqyer" - Albanian

In fact I like the phrase "khili khob" so much, I'm going to relabel the circuit breaker :ROFLMAO:

Apparently there's a training course running on some Northern France beaches in the finer points of different anchors - starting this discussion with BF if they board you is promised to send them on their way...

You seem to know a lot about the "business"
Is there anything you want to tell us?

We live in North Yorkshire now and the towns of Filey, Whitby and Scarborough have just such signs plastered about the place. I cant help feeling that there must be easier routes to cross than a couple of hundred miles of the grey north sea . Unless these are the folks who took a wrong turn at Sangatte and just kept going.
