Pre-purchase Surveyor Recommendations - Corfu

There's a hole-in-the-briny that has grabbed my attention that is in Corfu. For a myriad of yawn worthy reasons it is just not practical to get there myself, so am looking for recommendations for a surveyor that can do a pre-purchase survey for me.

I got involved in a similar situation early last year in the Azores. Someone was interested in buying a boat here and asked about surveyors. The only person willing to fly here and do a survey was charging exorbitant fees and was definately not recommended by someone with very recent experience of his work.

Based on almost 50 years boat ownership I inspected the boat for the prospective buyer and took a lot of high resolution photos along with measurements and descriptions of what I saw. My observations were all objective. He decided to buy on the evidence of the photos and my report. Incidentally, he has yet to visit the boat due to continuing travel restrictions.

You may be able to find someone willing to help in a similar way provided that the boat is fairly basic and does not have complex systems that would need specialist knowledge to assess.

The boat is ex-charter, so has no complications eg watermaker, solar, radar etc, etc.
 
Highly recommend Jeff Pollock at JP-Yachtsurveys ex pat out in corfu.

He was used by our buyer when we sold and would definately use him myself if I was buying in the area. Knows his stuff and both practical and reasonable. Also if you want someone to view a boat for you I'd recommend Matt at Creo Yacht brokers based in Nidri. Again ex pat and top bloke to help you buy.

I won't name names but the one to avoid is the local surveyor with a german name. His repuation for poor surveys can easily be found with a little googling.
 
Also you may be interested to know that there is an agreement between the major yacht brokers that if you use a broker to BUY your boat they will share the commission 50/50 with the sellers brokers.

We used this to great effect with Michael Schmidt & Partners as our "buyers" broker in our most recent purchase. They helped on the haggling and made sure all the paperwork was correct and accounted for, prior to the final purchase. Gave a nice feeling of reassurance when parting with large sums of money

By the way, the details in your link are not correct, but a quick google for "jeff pollock yacht surveyor" sorted that out.
 
I'm having no luck with contacting Jeff Pollock using the details I found in my Google search. If anyone has recently been in contact with Jeff, please DM his contact details to me.

I finalled tracked Jeff Pollock down. He's not doing any surveys until June. Damn!
The yacht broker has suggested I use a local bloke by the name of Spiros. Alas, the email address bounced. Two things
- does anyone have any experience with Spiros
- if yes, please DM his email address and phone number

Thanks for that. I had seen that thread and then did a Google search for Spiros/Spyros. His website no longer exists and a post on cruisersforum thinks he died a few years back, sadly. Who knows?
I have managed to find the contact details for William Walsh and am awaiting his response.
Who knew that buying a boat would be so challenging?

I have advised you on William Walsh .
Give him a look He will save you more money than his professional fee.

He's very very thorough and brokers do not recommend him .

Tell him Bob T , advised you ,a lot of the surveyors in the Ionion work for the brokers rather than the client.

Thanks for the recommendation, which is why I googled and then contacted him. He will get the work if my offer on the boat is accepted.
