practical uses for gopro hero

I've just worked out a new use for my gopro camera. As a single hander I want to rig up a remote control for my anchor windlass. But when sitting in the cockpit it's impossible to see which direction the chain is going. So I plan on rigging my gopro on to the pulpit to point at the chain. Then I can steer using my ipad as a monitor via wifi. Anyone tried that?

I think you may find the delay over WiFi too much to be able to steer by. Its about 10 seconds I think.

It's not that long, it's about 1-2 seconds max.

On a long pole to see the anchor is well dug in or the prop is clear?????

You might be right but I'll let you all know when I've tried it.

I tried it when the prop was fouled but it lost wifi contact under water, a great disappointment. You can always see the video afterwards but that takes too much time.
