You should go for your day skipper or push yourself to coastal skipper. You ain't going to do much power boating on the river! If your on the river anyway, your boat handling should be above average.

It's about 30 - 45 minutes cruise to get to the North sea... so there will be a bit of "power boating" although i don't wish to be a bloody idiot and annoy other users...!

A combination would be good i suppose, maybe do both at some point!

Have a look on the Wanted forum. There's a post there from Adobe offering free instruction on power boats. Might be worth a PM to him, perhaps he could put something together for you?

Concern yourself with the rules of the road, sea survival and navigation, prior to driving your boat like a maniac!
By the time you have brought yourself up to speed with your practical exams, you will find that your boat handling would have increased ten-fold.
Anyone can drive a motorboat fast and being out on the white stuff will give you plenty of practice..........................You will however look and feel like a plank if you are not fully aware of your situation, conditions your going into and the state you may find yourself in.

Not planning to drive like a maniac.. don't see much point, there is not so much relaxation that way!

Thanks for the advice.. will book the Day Skipper Practical!
