Powering DAB radios on the boat , solution ?

although the mornings are becoming relentless drones about how carp it is to be a woman and how all men are bad is now wearing a bit thin.

Has anyone else been made to feel ill by a day of Radio 4? it's dementia on Woman's Hour, diverticulitis on You and Yours, and afternoon play about depression and then before PM a half hour feature on hospices.

All worthy topics on their own, but one after another is enough to have you rushing off to A & E.

It might be capable of decent audio quality, but that isn't what it delivers. As I wrote earlier, all but the BBC transmit in mono only, and at pathetic bit rates. I suspect the youngsters have abandoned radio because it sounds so atrocious. It's as bad as a 96kbs mp3, and that's saying something.

Incidentally I looked at the bit rate of Planet Rock on the internet the other day, expecting 128kbs or better. What I found was 47kbs  They really have lost their way on the issue of quality.
They've lost their DAB audience, because most Planet Rock listeners listen on internet radio.
Internet offers much better codecs, so can get away with lower bit rates but I'm surprised it's that low.
Somebody once told me what the bit rate of sheet music is, I forget, but its very low.
Have you tried the Belgian version of Planet Rock? Sometimes the adverts are less irritating.
There is, thankfully, very little Belgian Classic Rock for them to play.

Planet Rock has been around almost as long as DAB, at least in this office, so possibly it's just had its day?
There are several rock stations competing now.
