My VP QL branded trim tab pump has blown one of its control solenoids.

I found a suitably sized 12V coil rated at ~ 12W, but is is not powerful enough to open the valve. It will hold the valve open, but cannot open it.

The good original pulls ~ 1.8 amps so ~ 20W.

I need the OD to be a max 28mm, height max 30mm and hole dia ~ 9mm (max 10mm).

Any ideas of a specialist supplier. I have checked Ebay, RS, Farnell, etc

Trevor,

when I replaced two solenoids on my hydraulic passarelle, I found v.easily the ones I wanted by visiting a specialized hardware store supplying bobcat and other digging machinery. Can you see the brand of the existing ones? Mine were oil sistem (italian) have to check what the replacements were.
have a look here for various brands of that sort of things (generally) http://www.crosshydraulics.com.au/brands.html

cheers

Solenoid or relay ie a switch or and electrically operated mechanical plunger as in a starter motor? If its the switch bit you need then the headlight relay from an old BL Mini will do the job - try classic car suppliers. If true solenoid then I would have thought it was a proprietary design.

Thanks for the link Vas. I found a manufacturer in Italy with a UK Agent, two coils ordered today that should provide the necessary pull force.
