Pottering about Southampton Water last week gave a graphic example of how careful trimming makes good sense.

Two identical Nimbus powerboats passed within a couple of minutes of each other at similar speed. One was digging a hole in the ocean one was just skidding along. The effect of the wash was very different.

Much of the problem of wash seems to result from poor speed selection or poor trimming. Don't powerboaters like to run efficiently?

Yes. I am sure they do. But just like raggie types. Some know more than others. Or maybe they were both trimming for different reasons and maybe the boat making the wash had trimmed for safety in big following sea and the other was a numbskull and liable to broach. Not saying either is the case here. Or what there reasons were if any. Less wash just means, more length of boat in water, not necesarily more economic.
