Just spent an enjoyable two days on a PB2 course with bro'in law, daughter and eldest son. An investment in time and money well made me thinks. It was a good balance between classroom and boat and was spiced up by the rescue at sea of a jetski user who didn't know how to start his engine, yes seriously.

We were poodling along with swimo jnr at the helm and heard a shout from port but none of our crew's eyes could see anything - then jnr said she thought she saw a 'couple of people standing on something on the water'. Anyway cut to the chase, we find this divvy in the drink hanging on the back of a jetski. Luckily he was uninjured so we hauled him aboard (this doesn't mean if he was hurt we would have left him there!) and towed his jetski about a mile, to a point as close to his slipway as teacher dare.

As we neared his point of release all matey boy's shorebound chums could do was hurl abuse at him across the waves. Unbelievable (say it in a Victor Meldrew voice) - for all they knew he'd been badly hurt. Still, it made a clear demonstration to us students about the value of learning about what you're getting into. Turns out it was his mates jetski (he was a geyser innit) and he'd only been let loose on it a few minutes beforehand.
