Does anyone have a recommendation for outfits that offer 'experience days' driving powerboats or RIBs??
MBM did an article recently about Thruxton, but does anyone else do the same? Birthday pressie for Dad.

Hi Phil
Not sure if Keith at Barry Inshore Power Boat School can help, He does offer a range of services even if he can't help he may know someone who can.

Activity Superstore do it. They have a tie up with Reefer Racing at Warsash. You can find both outfits on the web.

They run 2 Velocity 32s. One with twin 430hp Volvos, and the other with 900 odd hp single supercharged lump. VERY noisey.

Think the twin installation one, holds the Poole to Cherbourg record for its class. Think it took 62 mins.

Been in both. Bloody good fun, and get amazing respect from everybody else on the water. Bit like driving a fire engine in heavy traffic.

Don't do it with a runny nose though.

Good luck & enjoy it

Or Tiger Bay training of Cardiff, they have a number of Zap cats they can take you out on as well as ribs.

Most Rya training establishments could probably help,
the thruxton powerboat experience would be good as i understand that they use
ribs and a sunseker superhawk 48, there are a number of charter co's in poole that could probably do something as well. If you really want to give him something to remember thruxton also do aerobatic things in planes with ex red arrow pilots, i have done similar and it was fab, don't eat before you go tho

I don't think Reefer Racing are still around. Don't even consider Red Letter Days, they use a company based at Shamrock, and the boats are less than impressive, a couple of ex Honda race boats with 130hp o/b's, and an extremely slow HTM catamaran with a 300hp diesel. They claim 80 mph with the cat, but it barely does 50!!!!!!

Worth going to watch the owner crash into all the berthed boats though.

I can maybe sort you out several options from ribbing to either drive in Honda 225 or V24. One thing is that you will not be able to helm either the Honda or V24 yourself. PM me with a phone contact and I'll give you a ring.

Depending where you are, you could do a great deal worse than give Paul Davies a call at Sea training International In North Wales (Felinheli) He's got 2 Delta Ribs, the biggest being a 10M beast with twin 300HP doncs. Great chap and a fantastic area to blast around. 50 Kts through the Menai Straits and the swellies on a spring tide will certainly concentrate the mind!!

Cheers
