Hi

On my boat I've got a Samsung smart TV (UE22H5600)
and a Sony DVD Player (BDP S3500) and I'm currently
powering both of them through an inverter.

I assume that if I power them from 12v the current draw
will be reduced ?

Powering the DVD Player from DC should be straightforward as it
has an external 12v power supply. But should I plug
direct into the boats 12v or do I need to use a DC-DC
converter to provide a stable 12v supply ?

Powering the TV from DC is less straigtforward as it only
has an AC power socket. This suggests that I'm stuck with an
inverter (although not a big deal as it's only 22W) ?

Thanks

Not many people have access to an accurately regulated 12V supply, and the manufacturer of your DVD knows this. They probably further presume that they'll mostly be used in campervans and the like, which run in a similar way to boats. The "12V" is nominal. The literature accompanying the DVD may well specify the tolerance, perhaps something like 10-15V.

Boat 12V sytems can be electrically 'noisy 'when lots of equipment is turned on, although that probably won't be the case when you're all sitting down to watch TV. Some equipment is sensitive to this and may not work well, but you'll quickly notice if that's the case.

I read the OP to mean that it has an external mains power brick with a 12v output, not a connector on the DVD intended for the customer to apply 12v (if it were the latter I'd entirely agree with your post).

That said, such power bricks are often unregulated, and it's unlikely that much if any of the DVD circuitry runs at 12v, so there is very likely a regulator inside the box anyway. Personally unless the machine was extremely expensive or irreplaceable I'd give it a go.
