Power Tech Props - sorry more prop questions

Following on from my last thread i.e Prop supplier, I have now found two cheaper sites (Coastalrides and Streamlinedpropellers) - thanks everyone who replied.

Both quote Power Tech props and StreamlinedProps say the paint on the props is better than Volvo's orginals. I normally strip the paint off and recoat with several layers of epoxy which last two seasons at least, anyway Streamlined suggest the paint should be okay.

So my question, new props and leave the orginal paint on or strip and epoxy. What I want to avoid is the paint coming off too early and end up with pitting etc.

Streamlined mentioned there will be a Test article in motorboats monthly on Powertech props.

I have had Powertech for a while now and the paint on the rear props seems to come off easily. Forward props not so bad. We have corrosion problems so may be linked to that.

Interested to hear about stripping & painting with epoxy - is it simply a case of removing all the paint ad then applying the epoxy? do you antifoul over it or not

Basically yes strip the paint and epoxy several coats, then once dry lightly sand to make a key and then two coats of antifoul. In my experience the antifouling comes off but not the epoxy paint and hence you save your props from pitting badly. I use white epoxy so I can see when the grey antifouling comes off etc.

For the last few years I used MF Primer which was for the Hull epoxy, but that has now run out and too expensive to buy for just props. So this year purchased International Paints Interprotect and see how it goes.

boat is due back in on Monday and can't get there till Sunday, how long does epoxy take to dry before you can put it in water?

The Interprotect is quick drying compared to some epoxys, just had a look at the spec and you need to apply above 5c and overcoating time for antifouling is 10hours, basically I think you will just about be okay if you start early Sunday morning.

I've seen it in most chandlers so I would have thought you shouldn't have too trouble finding some.
