Poundland AA Alkaline Batteries x6 £1

I bought 2 of the Kodak packs and they did not last as long as other brands.

They lasted a very short time in fact and I compare them quite carefully with other brands.

Could be I had a bad batch.

Do you notice how some AA alkalines are heavier than others? The lighter ones just don't have the Amps.

I did cut one in half, but could not count the electrons because they moved too quickly :D

Another test is putting the pack next to your ear. If you can hear the electrons coughing don't bother.

I had a few packs for my Fuji compact which were OK [ish] but then had a pack which wouldn't work at all. The camera switched on but went dead when the shutter was pressed. I therefore was forced to buy batteries from a camera shop at exorbitant cost but those lasted for 100s of shots.
Far better value, though it hurt my skinflint instincts.

They usually have a capacity in mAh somewhere on the pack. This is what to base your purchasing on - otherwise it's like comparing the price of "a bottle of milk" without distinguishing between the 1 pint, the 1 litre, or the 2 litre bottles.

Personally I buy bulk quantities of Procell via eBay every few years. These are Duracell's "trade" brand. As well as pricing, it's very convenient to know that the box on the shelf always has batteries in it and I never (till it's time for the next batch) need to think about buying them.

I use the procell AAA in my work headtorch and buy them from ebay 50 at a time.
Really excellent batteries are Energizer Lithium Uliimate

I get my batteries from CPC - these are good value, have a decent capacity and I've never had any problems with them - http://cpc.farnell.com/gp-batteries/gp15a-40/battery-alkaline-aa-1-5v-pk40/dp/BT00075 - they came out top in a 'Gadget Show' test a couple of years ago and as they are currently offering free shipping, it works out at 32p per battery.

Incidentally, I've found that Duracell 'AA' batteries don't work in some of my devices, the positive 'pimple' on the battery is too short by a few microns...

+1 in fact I find www.CPC.co.uk handy for all sorts of stuff. no connection etc, just a well served customer.

I had some stuff from CPC delivered the other day. The box was extremely heavy considering what i'd ordered. Turned out to include their full catalogue as well - inches thick!

If you have a branch of Robert Dyas near you, they usually have very good deals on AAs from Energizer, Duracell, sometimes Panasonic.

And now they'll send you a mini-catalogue through the post every two weeks until you get fed up of disposing of it and phone them up to demand they delete all your details from their database.

Difficult to understand why a firm like CPC would still print a paper catalogue in this day and age

I find I can locate stuff by judiciously flicking pages faster than working out expressions to search with.
If the search engine was better that might not be the case, but even if it was, I often find other things I would never have though of, so I like to have the hard copy as well as the web catalogue.
It would certainly impact on their sales if they dropped the catalogue.

Last year I bought a big pack of Pounstretchers own brand-really poor quality and short life-so beware.

Were they alkaline or zinc-carbon?

My BIL thought he was getting a bargain, until I pointed out he'd bought zinc-carbon, and they wouldn't last 5 minutes compared to Duracells.
