Pound v Euro and Yachting

Has anybody else noticed the very poor performance of the coins of our realm in the marine enviroment when drilled out to make decent sized washers? The proper old pennies used to last for years, and you got 240 for a pound.
Anybody tried the Euro coinage yet?

These days they spend the coins and buy modern adhesives. ;-)

Have you seen the size of the copper cents,or lepta where i am .A 20cent is 22mm Dia ,2 cent is20mm, 1 cent is 15mm,( looks like a farthing if you can remember that far back and about as much use) all in new money sizes. The old Drachma is much more useful.

I have a jar of Euro copper coins but I presume it would cost more to post them to someone (for use as washers) than they are worth.

Incidentally, how come small stainless washers cost more than the equivalent sized coin even though the coin has to be stamped with complicated patterns and stored and delivered with high security?
