As an MDL berth holder, just had an email from them asking for a vote on a new fuel dock at Shamrock Quay. Unable to post a link to the survey as it's specific to MDL clients, but the jist is :

As a bertholder that would probably be nice, but with MDL I get the feeling us guests are paying for your fuel discount 😂

In fairness I believe ‘fuel at cost’ hasn’t been available for new MDL berth holders for a while now.

Premier are similarly ‘guilty’ for significant differentials.

There was talk about a fuel berth on the extended pontoons at Haslar but that seems to have got bogged down in logistics issues

Oh that sucks. Fuel at cost is a genuinely good benefit when everyone else is paying forecourt prices for fuel despite lower duty.
Yes at Haslar we’d love a fuel pontoon but the trade off is the team actually looks at boats as they walk around and checks lines etc. Boatfolk currently are head and shoulders above the others in customer service and attitude. They’re not perfect but I wouldn’t voluntarily go back to Premier. We only have one more month of having a berth sadly, then we’re a “homeless” boat 😱

Lucky is correct. Been an MDL customer for couple of years now, they scrapped that, and freedom berthing etc, when introduced Otium Points. I pay same price as everyone else for fuel but get "cashback" in the form of Otium Points that can be spent at MDL or a few other places (Destys, Hudson Radio etc).

You don't need to berth with MDL to join the Otium scheme.

Oh they signed me up for that without asking as I’d been a visitor and previously happy with a free night now and then. I’ve not had anything free since so I guess it’s working.

If someone is establishing a new fuel berth, a thought would be to consider HVO as a synthetic diesel substitute with many advantages but a bit more expensive and less available. The Itchen is well out of the way, based in Portsmouth, but it would be worth an occasional detour if HVO was available by hose.
