We're on the River Lot, Aquitaine, for the summer. Greetings, fellow river rats!

What a lovely peaceful scene. Will it stay that quiet and serene all summer? Might get a little boring but I guess I could get used to being bored in scenery like that!

Access to the River Lot from the canal system is via a crossing on the River Garonne. The 5km traverse is always closed during high summer (July to early Sept) due to lack of water. This year it's already very low* and although we got across on Monday (900mm draft) friends with 1300mm draft can't - unless there's some rain soon, which looks unlikely. There's a full-size barge here (1.2m draft) that can't get back at the mo'
* The Garonne - the Lot has, well, lots of water and depth (8m+ often) and width - and the canals are ok for the moment.
So, yes it's always this peaceful and beautiful, many places to tie up, mostly with free water and electricity. Which is why we're here.
Boring? - well, blue skies, sunshine, cheap wine, no queues at locks, no half-wits in overpowered gin palaces roaring up and down . .

Seeing as you have such a comprehensive site of French inland waterways stuff could you point me in the direction of any guides to navigating the tidal Loire Angers to Nantes?

Lot....

....and some phenominal deep, fruity reds in that region. As a life-long francophile, that's by far my favourite part of the country for the weather, food, wine and people...

you poor buggers.....all summer long....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

ps...ignore the title...of course I mean Lot! If you get the chance DO visit Montauban which is right on the Tarn and a BEAUTIFUL medieval town.....and Carcassonne....
