Stunned.

Just had delivered from Jabsco Shop (xylem) parts for my loo:
Parts cost 34. 43
Postage and packing 30.16
Tax etc. 31.28

Now I know I live in the Caribbean but, with parts at 34 and postage and tax at 61.44, that's a huge chunk.
95.87 total for parts costing 35

I think the Guadeloupians think that Brexit has happened!!!!

Oh, and another thing, I'll never be grumpy at Amazon's packaging again. Huge box for bits that could fit in a padded envelope.
Ridiculous

Been there, Amazon managed to send cooker parts in a large box (12"x10"x6" or thereabouts). Contents consisted of a small envelope held in place diagonally inside with tape plus note explaining it was a part order of 2 small cooker burner caps. Remaining items to follow, presumably packed in a haulage container. :D

Jeanneau also get a prize for sending a part order with a note saying a locking washer wasn't in stock and would follow the main order. The washer arrived the next day and I was charged the same postage as the main order (about £12 if I remember correctly).

Actually I think it is pretty amazing that the modern world has technology and international trade agreements that enable a part to be sent from ?UK to Guadeloupe for only a few pounds (OP: you were deficient in naming your currency:)). Quite a marvel, when you think how many people have to handle, tax , record, etc etc.

Tax is local so that's up to Guadaloup but it's charged on the total of goods and freight of £64.59, or 48% for tax and duty.

I don't think £30 is at all bad for a parcel to the Caribbean, it costs me £25 to send a small parcel over 2Kg less than 10Kg to the channel islands. For Europe we normally quote around £45 - £55 for a 4 or 5 Kg shipment with UPS or TNT.

I was sent a liftraft from Germany to Malta for 35 Euros a small Jiffy bag from the uk to greeece 18 pounds ,
Really think some UK company's are taken the P when it comes to PP.
Last thing we ordered from the UK I had it sent to my son and he forwards it on , two lots of PP and it was 5 pound cheaper then what they wanted to send direct .

It makes a huge difference in Ireland or even NI. I don't know who it is actually taking the P. Maybe the vendors or maybe the courier companies they use. I use Amazon a lot just because I can get free delivery (sometimes have to buy a few paperbacks at the same time but nothing I wouldn't be buying anyway).

I've a few stories of silly situations involving, mainly, UK chandlers. Getting stuff from Germany with cheaper postage than getting it from Britain to NI, or in a couple of cases dangerous goods that couldn't be flown to Ireland from the UK, but could be flown from Germany over the UK. You could laugh but it is actually quite frustrating.

But there are quite a few N. I companies trading on the internet with free or cheap delivery, selling bike parts, power tools, gas fittings, chainsaw parts etc. to GB and undercutting on both price and carriage so if it works one way why not the other? It is a sore point here in W. Scotland particularly when they use the Post Office, we bought two of those little led loo lights last week, £12 more to post to a Paisley postcode than a Glasgow one.

Recommend carrying a complete spare Jabsco Twist&Lock pump. It has all the bits that usually break, is far cheaper than buying them separately, and you can just swap it over and fix the broken pump later.

Also, use visitors as part mules: "Want to spend a weekend on a yacht in this beautiful water? Just let us order a few bits to your address and stuff them in your bag."

I seem to understand Parcelforce charges less to send from NI than to NI.

I was going to buy a small and light item yesterday and get it posted to NI. It was free if "UK Mainland" but £18 to NI. Delivery firms, I think, are the problem - we never had UK ones until the peace process and they must still be pricing for the Troubles. I'll get it sent to Manchester and posted on from there.

It does help make NI both the poorest part of the UK and the most expensive for non-housing. We need more blackmail money from Mrs May.

This is a good P&P deal: Here in Saudi the post service is, er, not as good as anywhere else in the world so you have to use DHL/FedEx, etc.

Posting a DL sized letter from Riyadh to Portsmouth UK. GBP 47.00 to you sir...

Come back Porcel Farce/Royal Fail, all is forgiven...

3 to 5 day Royal Mail to Spain took 10 days just a couple of weeks ago (Spanish seem to cause the delay). Other firms offer better rates and times but need to be collected from a commercial premises. Might be an idea to see if suppliers would allow me to arrange pick up from them myself.
