you can put anything there you like really, just choose from the selection. has no real meaning.

I can understand the smiley/grumpy faces and the question mark, but why should anyone choose the book?

I think the book icon appears as a default in certain circumstances. I have never selected it, as far as I can remember, but it appears in some of my posts!
It has this time, in the preview anyway. It must be a default if you do a 'quick reply'. 'no icon' seems to be set as default for 'reply'
