It sounds like something they used to have in the Nauticalia catalogue. That was probably meant to sit on the coffee table and be a conversation piece/plaything. Not sure if yours is something different but it's hard enough to use the proper thing on a small boat let alone a little thing like that. ? quality of optics. Sit on a beach or a rock and compare it with the real thing.

I bought myself a second hand sextant for Christmas cost quite a bit!! standard size sextant. Hope to use it for a planned States to UK crossing, have got a garmin hand held 48 gps, so a bit of indulgence! But after reading comments of the errors of gps perhaps between the two I should know where I am.
