Possible warning - Navionics on Android

Update

So it took a while, but eventually Navionics provided me with the software I bought from them.

They claimed it would not work on the 10.1, but of course it does.

The hurdles they put in the way were substantial, and eventually it took a request to escalate it to their MD before anything to done.

Even then they wanted me to provide the original email recipts from three years ago, which of course I did not have, but eventually after a call and an email they accepted a screengrab of my google play account.

It guess the moral of this sorry tale is that with Navionics you need to:

a) keep your purchase email receipt

b) be tenacious in the face of stiff attempts to fleece you of your hard earnt money

The apps are great, and it is a real shame that they behave as they do.

I hope another company comes along with a well priced rival product - they have lost me as brand advocate.

Hi Comrade,
You previously helped me out with advice on UK n Holland chart reload.
Just got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 from Santa.
Had a look on Navionics but it says model not supported.
Any advice

If you have previously purchased Navionics UK & Holland and still have it on another Android device then it is fairly easy to transfer it using Astrid File Manager. I successfully transferred the mobile phone version from an HTC phone onto a Nexus 7 tablet which is not officially supported by Navionics.

You can get it free from Google Play app store. It has a facility to back up applications which creates installation files. Back up Navionics on the device where it has been installed. You then need to transfer the resulting file to the target device. One way is to send it to yourself as an email attachment. As far as I remember, you can install the app on the second device without needing Astrid there.

I had a punch-up with Navionics Italy earlier in the year when I upgraded my Android phone. I eventually got them to send me the necessary file. However, at the time, they were offering a cheap deal (can't recall exactly how much) on the new software, so I eventually decided to upgrade, and now have both.

During the 'debate', however, I received a mail containing the following outrageous b****cks -

"Please be informed that all sales are final. Once the Navionics application is downloaded, you cannot cancel or withdraw it. Navionics may stop releasing updates for a certain app without cause at any time. In addition, your license to the software may, at Navionics¡¯ discretion, expire when new versions of the software are released. "

The non hd products will not show as available for your tablet. I tried many bwckup products but none would allow it.

It basically took a concerted effort over several weeks, with a good dose of irate-ness, before they emailed the apk files. Emails go to the very arrogant team in Italy who have the view it is tough luck. Get on the phone to uk. They will just end up towing the italian line.

I ended up demanding they got their md involved.

You will basically have to be a real pest.

Their approach to customers is shocking and if there was an alternate product from another supplier i would dump navionics. It is the perfect example of why sole supplier markets breed contempt for product buyers.

Would it be worth forwarding a link to this thread to their PR department and their MD?

I have the HD app on an ASUS TF300 which works fine, but then I have only just started with a tablet and app that are "compatible"

They do have a lot of work to make the routing useable, but the ONE problem I did have was dealt with swiftly and accurately.

Regards

Ian

Given the popularity of tablets this Christmas, I suspect many will find that they are unable to re-install their previously purchased Navionics software.

If you're not willing to pay for the newer/HD version of the software again, you have to obtain the application ()APK file) in some other way:

- "root" your old device and copy the APK file across.
- e-mail Navionics with a screenshot of the old app in your Google app library and requesting the APK files for the software that you bought. In short, you are entitled to what you paid for.

I am in the same situation with my new tablet and it's frustrating. I already had Navionics send me the old version's APK files when I upgraded a year or so ago; at the same time, I bought the new versions but even those are no longer available for my tablet in Google Play.

Are you still using the same Google account details you used when purchasing the app? The purchase agreement is for the original user and you may have fallen foul of some protection if you changed your account.
