Position for a swan neck deck fitting?

Thinking this is a good project as I currently have a mess at the base of the mast, notably a box that sits over the metal frame you can see pictured which really is not water tight.
I know I don't want genoa sheets to foul the fitting. Any advice welcome.....

I am wondering about directly behind the mast, but are there problems with that?

There is a similar device to a swan neck that takes multiple cables that I would also be interested in. Can't find a link at the moment.

Have used this on two boats. Expensive but works well.

I have swan necks for cables, for both my main and mizzen masts. It was just a case of choosing a site that was appropriate for the cables beneath the deck, and also out of the way of any running rigging etc above deck. Don't remember it being a problem.

My swan neck is next to the mast and I've never had a problem with jib sheet fouling, but that may be because I have twin lower shrouds each side, with one slightly ahead.

Yes I'll be fitting a swan neck to replace leaky alternatives, had one on the last boat - excellent IMHO. You'll find ropes won't get under the hook of the neck as the wires will stop them. So shouldn't be a problem.

I bought a 'Cableport' from Salty John's based on recommendations on here. I had much the same as you, a line of cable glands which I filled and then drilled over size one of the centre ones to take all the cables. Fitted the cableport over the large hole. I can now feed all the cables with their terminals, including the VHF and connector through one hole. The cableport is designed to such that water can't get over an internal raised wall. Good bit of kit and it can be stood on, kicked, dropped on and flicked with a sheet without any worries.

A pressed stainless steel butter dish makes a very acceptable ( and cheap ) alternative to a 'cableport' I made up an internal baffle, sealed the hole anyway and now have a nice low profile cable protector with a series of waterproof connectors tucked under the cover should I decide to take the stick down.

Thanks all. That's been useful. Hadn't thought too hard about the situation under the deck and my idea of behind the mast would make my life a lot trickier underneath. The logical spot is shown in the photo as where the metal frame currently stands. And that is where I was worried a swan neck could be fouled. Inetersted if anyone has put one there and regretted it? I know people fix a line from the swan neck to the mast as a solution. My fouling lines problem has only ever been with the bow cleats, I've never studied if any lines have got near the base of the mast.
