Try the ITSU brand Thai Noodle pots

We brought some from Waitrose, I think, for our trip across Europe in our motorhome and they are absolutely delicious

Does it have to involve hot water? There are some pretty good prepared meals these days - far better than the original frozen/microwave ready meal - and you can just pop them in the oven while sailing then dish up as soon as the anchor light is hoisted.

Mug Shots are reasonably tasty and easily made. Just add hot water. Not a meal, but a good temporary filler. Can also get bigger packets that are meals. Both far better than Pot Noodles in my opinion.

Another line of attack; Amazon do a wide range of self heating meals - I haven't tried them but they seem OK by desription - the ones in the 1980's weren't bad, a cut well above a pot noodle but small portions in those days.

A bit pricey compared to pot noodles, but might be really handy when it's too boisterous to go below and ' cook ' with even a kettle !

I'd normally be slightly ashamed to contribute here...except I just remembered a variety of dehydrated stuffed-pasta meal I found in France in the last ten years. Astonishingly good. Not sophisticated or exotic, but really tasty and filling. It'd be perfect if I could only remember what they were called...

...little pellets about 15mm long, stuffed with some sort of rich savoury mulch in different flavours, something beefy, something else like spinach & ricotta. They were so good, I'd sometimes snack on them from the bag, driving home from the supermarket. So I doubt they needed long in a pan - a mug of boiling water would do it if you sieved them before eating.

I'll search online for the name.

I quite like the pot mash with onion in it. Faster and easier to eat than a pot noodle and I think tastier too.

I amazed you still have a stock of true Pot Mash by Golden wonder it was discontinued in its original true form in 2000, any thing else is just wrong...

I still morn the end of Pot Rice, particularly curry flavor. They should bring it back by popular demand!

The King and only source of good noodles is Golden Wonder, all this talk of others is heresy I tell you. All you that consider there maybe better out there are heretics and talking blasphemy I tell you. Who else could make make a Chicken or beef noodle that is vegetarian it can only be a miracle :D :D

I am just thankful that no one is talking down that other quality food source batchelors Cup A Soup....

Can heartily recommend Kabuto Noodles, which you can get from Sainsburys, Tescos and I believe Waitrose.

They're not especially cheap (about 2 quid a pop), but useful as a standby meal as they have an long shelf live (12 months or so). They come in 5 flavours, have tried the beef and chicken, both of which were very pleasant, and tasted like something you'd get in Wagamamas. As a posh pot noodle, it fulfills the brief as you just need to add hot water.

You could look here. I think they have the web page in English.

Almost anything you want in freeze dried / instant / just add water meals, and I think they deliver to the UK. Some of the meals are surprisingly good. I actually look forward to doing offshore races so I can eat some more freeze dried food. I am not kidding. It reminds me I have got to order some more for the next couple of races.

But if you get freeze dried my advice would be not to follow the instructions strictly. I don't make the meal in the bag, but put it in a Tupperware container. Then I add a bit more water then they suggest, and leave it for longer than they suggest. Put the lid on and wrap it in a towel to keep it warm. Then it is usually pretty hard (i.e. not fully hydrated) so I add more hot water until it is appealing. The really important thing is to make sure it is fully hydrated, or even over-hydrated. Under-hydrated is bad for you.

I am at work so youtube is blocked - I think this is the link on making lunch aboard a mini

Good and cheap but read the ingredients or should I say chemical list.

I like Pot Noodles which are easy to deride as the brand name but the original basic ones have very little dodgy stuff in them and are self contained snacks and great for sialing in bad weather.

What are the best instant meals available from supermarkets, which a single handed sailor can knock up in a hurry just by adding hot water ?

They won't suit the majority of British palettes but if you are into noodles of the se asia kind check out mama noodles. Not stocked by the majority of main stream supermarkets although bigger tescos do them. Otherwise your local asian supermarket or online
If you love spice you will never eat a pot noodle or other golden wonder or similar abomination again
