Poseidon website down again?

The forecast maps have been generated (up to Sun 6/7/2014) so it's their website that's not working.

Not noticed a break but it isn't a forecast I put much trust in. For example, at Nidri (Levkas) right now we are getting quite a fresh NW breeze, enough to have several yachts dragging their anchors. It has been forecast by Weatherunderground for a couple of days, but never by Poseidon.

I have to agree about Posiedon's delays, inaccuracy and fragility.

I personally find it much safer to download the NOAA GRIB files and derive a local forecast from that.

I'm in Kiato in the Gulf of Corinth a 3 is forecast but a 6 is blowing at present. After a trip yesterday from Aegina and through the canal the forecast again was 3 and we had a steady 7 and even gusting 9 as we approached the canal. I have yet to find a site that has forecast these winds reliably.

I'm surprised to hear that anyone was forecasting a force 3 yesterday. We are in the Saronic at present, where most sources, including Navtex, Poseidon, Meteo.gr and Pocket Grib were all predicting force 5-6, which turned out to be about right.

At the moment, the Poseidon forecast on the website is only showing 4 days - up to Tuesday 8th, so the overnight update of the website hasn't happened and the wind maps are more than 24 hours old. Again.

But the forecast was generated last night, eg for about now

(Almost the same)

One weakness of these maps is that they're only updated once a day (when it works) so by the evening the forecasts are always more than 12 hours old. Other sites update more frequently.

Ask Bazilos. He will know what the weather will be like!

Problem with Galaxhidi is the dearth of good places to eat.

With winds that strong, I hope you're tied up well to the bandstand.

I think I will stay put in Kiato until tomorrow then look at heading over to Galaxidi, if the weather looks better. I hope the town will have recovered from the wind over the last couple of days.

It's calm now, most of the boats have left, we have just been in on the dinghy and saw a bloody huge turtle and some dolphins nearly in the entrance.

We are on the hook just outside. The resturant on the pier looks like a bomb has hit it from here..

Safest place - good holding. I'm in Karlovasi. Was alongside but appropriated two local moorings and pulled out by the stern to ride out the meltemi @ 04:30 yesterday morning.

Wind has now gone round to the W, after 90' of calm. Ferries from Athens, yesterday were 4 hrs late, delayed by the seas, but Mikynos, the NEL ferry was on time coming in this morning. The poor old tug round the corner has been sounding like a bell-buoy, C flat.
