Ahh yes, I forgot, Sue! So over the past 12 months that's bash up through the Raz de Sein under No4 against a fair old blow, overhaul a few bigger boats for fun, thread through the rocks like a nautical mountain goat, then produce a bottle of rather fine red wine...

Having sailed out of Portsmouth for the past 20 years I have never seen a boat aground in the inner swashway. I have always been intrigued by this.

Here's one from a couple of years ago, I remember seeing it on the way in: Sunsail Mayday, Portsmouth harbour

I think it is quite a regular occurrence.

If you're early on the flood on the way home across the East Solent it's worth having a quick look at the tide tables and doing a bit of mental arithmetic so you know roughly what to expect when you get to Gilkicker.

That's the Hamilton Bank, which dries now and then.
The Inner Swashway is a little deeper (and is on the Gosport, landward side of Mrs H's Bank.)
Most yachts which are likely to ground in the Innder Swashway probably hit the Hamilton Bank first...

I have always found QHM most helpful in giving a tide gauge reading if they're not busy.
