Lots of fish around in pompey atm - unfortunately the little buggers know we cannot catch them as they are in the main channel

Is it cheating if you start counting from below the surface?
No it isn't, the captain could partially flood the ballast tanks and steam on with just the fin showing so making his draft variable
I don't know what modern day boats can dive to, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could reach depths in excess of 1000 mtrs, our own Swiftsure class were good for 2000'(600 odd mtrs) back in the mid 70's
