Are there any places in Portsmouth harbour that allow visitors to join/leave a yacht that hasn't stayed there (eg marina), preferably with car parking nearby. Spi tower area perhaps ?. Thanks.

All the marinas on the Gosport side have security gates. However, it is very easy to tailgate someone or to identify a boat/berth and say you are joining them and can you be let in. Once your passenger is inside the marina you can arrange to pick them up from an outside pontoon. A mobile phone for both parties makes this pretty easy to arrange.

Haslar probably has the easiest access to the outside pontoons, some of which are almost always free and there is a public car park within walking distance.

This would be the best option. What do you think would be the Marina office response if they knew this was happening ?. Worth a phone call to ask ?. I would like to be able to rely on it even if there was a small cost involved .........

Hardway, Gosport. Public slipway and jetty next to Hardway sailing club but not all tide access.

Parking about 200m up the road opposite.

They might charge a short stay fee but that won't be much and there is always room at Haslar so you can rely on it. My experience of D&R marinas is that they'd probably give you a half hour to pick someone up, if you tie up next to the Mary Mouse you don't really even have to call them just stop and go.

It can be difficult to moor alongside at The Camber at low water springs otherwise could be the cheapest option although there is a charge if you stop for too long (although its not patrolled regularly).

Haslar or the Gun Wharf pontoons are probably the easiest; for a pit stop I would be surprised if you get charged but best, as already suggested, to call and check.

Camber is favourite, but parking costs.
Up harbour, there are Port Solent and Wicor Marine, but thats about an hour from the sea, if that matters?

I've done this before, if you call Gosport Marina on C80 seek their permission and offer a small gift for the RNLI they are very helpful.

Best do it this way than not informing them its only fair.

Delbuoy....

This would be my best bet since D&R own the public car park so if you are paying to park there it is cash to them. They are very nice people as well so its worth asking at the office or giving them a call

If you're dropping off from boat then presumably they have an onward journey - camber better than God'sport for trains and coaches.

If just dropping off from car then park next to boats at camber- you're allowed to drop and pick up crew - as long as vehicle not unattended then you won't get a ticket.

Rafting up to one of the work boats is preferable at certain tide states.
