Portsmouth chandlers

Got a car? If not I suggest a ride on the Gosport Ferry and walk up to Camper & Nicholsons, sorry Gosport Marina.

Edit:- My local if you're passing this way.

Port Solent is the nearest big one, go for a rummage in the £5 hanks of rope bin.
Some clothing bargains too.
Chris Hornsey in Eastney is a medium size shop, not the cheapest but good service and will get stuff for you. Has stuff you need.
One or two others like Ron Hale, Southsea, good for inflatable and outboards,
Automarine for outboards etc.
I don't know what the shop is like at Southsea marina?
Aladin's Cave is only 20minutes up the M27.

have car can travel

In that case, I'd suggest Port Solent and then, if you have time, go to Aladdin's Cave (now owned by Force 4, I think?) at Swanwick and then cross the A27 and stroll down the lane to Foulkes' Barge, which is a veritable treasure trove of Stuff You Didn't Realise You Needed :)

I always enjoy a mooch round the barge, but have been put off a bit by some rather, shall we say, optimistic pricing. You may get lucky, but you need to know the prices before going in there.

I'd also have thought that a couple of hours is a bit tight to get there, mooch and get back. It wouldn't be hard to spend over an hour travelling at the wrong time of day.

Good mooch at Port Solent nothing found. Heading to Poole in the morning so might stop en route and visit some once there, next stop after that is Plymouth and I know all the swindleries there.

Sod the swindleries. Miss out Guzz and head for Penzance my 'andsome. Visit the fishermans chandlers. Got our anodes there last year. Average cost in the swindlers....£45 to £72.
Got exact identical in Penzance for £18 each with 10% discount for cash. 'andsome.

Fully agree on the anodes and mine is fine so not replacing it this year. however, there are certain odds and ends that still need seeking out. Had to resort to having a washer made up but I'm not going to go into why, but hoping they can get it done today.

Not only that but just enjoy looking around the said emporium's to see all the shiny gadgets that I can in no way afford.

Endeavour Chandlers @ Gosport Marina closed 25/10/09, now online only.

No surprise there, Endeavour never had and decent level stock, at least they never seemed to have what I was looking for, Solent Marine on the opposite side of the road is much the same. Since Peter's closed (because the marina wanted to use the building for their own offices) Gosport marina has been crying out for a good chandlery. Arthur’s and Hardway Marine are both friendly and helpful but shop size limits what they can hold.

I mostly use Hardway, parly 'cos it's spitting distance from the HSC pontoon, partly 'cos Steve's friendly and helpful. It's only a small shop, but if he hasn't got what I want, he can usually get it by the next time I'm down. He will usually match on line prices, too.

BTW, Haslar has a new Chandler's. They're still finding their way stockwise, but friendly and helpful. Run by sailors, too.
